Hi Everyone,
Here is a random thought to ponder. I was in the grocery store yesterday looking for a nice cantaloupe. I can never definitively tell when they are ripe or not and commented to the woman who was also searching beside me “How can you really tell if it’s good or not?”. She said “they say, you should thump it and smell the stem area. If you thump it and it sounds hollow it should be good”. I smiled, said Thank you and went about my search for the perfect melon with this undisputable knowledge.
Later in the check out line while in front of the cashier I asked her if she was ready for all this Thanksgiving shopping to be done. She said she was ready for this to be over. She said she just started and said, “They say the Sunday before Thanksgiving is the busiest day in a grocery store”. I then left thankful I was out of the chaos of mad shoppers.
When I got home, I was chatting with my boyfriend and remarked what a crisp autumn day it was and I’m so glad the rain stopped. He commented, “They say it’s supposed to rain tomorrow”. My face sank with gloom!
I started to think about all the shared information from the day then thought about “They”.
“They”, it sounds like a supreme being. Who or what is “They”? Why is “They” so knowledgeable? Where did “They” acquire this knowledge? How do I get to be a member of “They”? Would I even qualify? Do I really want to be a member of “They”? Can I handle the pressure? “They” carry the burden of knowledge and have responsibilities beyond my comprehension. What a vast audience “They” have. I mean several people I spoke to today quoted “They”. All manner of topics and conversations in society today are explained or initiated by the word “They”.
Is there a secret handshake, knock or phrase so members of “They” will be able to identify each other and gain entry to the important conversations that start these rumors, wives’ tales, and bits of public knowledge? Once admitted are they lifelong members? What if a member gives out incorrect information? Does that member get ostracized from “They”? Can entry be re-admitted after the committee considers all past achievements? Like a probationary period or re-certification process? Who knows? “They” know!
I’d really like to know the identity of “They” as they have such an impact on my life, but “They” say there are just some things we will just never know. LOL
